Ubuntu–Maat Mindset Model (UMMM)
An African-centred framework connecting human agency, ethics, relational responsibility and long-term development to institutions and political economy.
The Ubuntu–Maat Mindset Model is developed in Shifting Mindsets for Sustainable Development in Africa: A Political Economy Perspective. It brings Ubuntu—interdependence, dignity, reciprocity and shared wellbeing—into dialogue with Maat—truth, justice, balance, integrity and accountability. UMMM asks how these principles can inform the behaviour through which institutions are built, used, reproduced or transformed.
UMMM does not claim that mindset alone determines development. It places mindset within political economy, where historical, institutional and material conditions shape what individuals and organisations can do.

The development question
Growth in capability is not enough. UMMM asks how capability is exercised: with what ethical anchor, in relation to whom, with what sense of agency, and with what awareness of consequences across time.
