UMMM Research & Validation
From conceptual framework to empirical examination.
The current research programme asks whether the four proposed Mindset Maturity dimensions—Relational Identity, Moral Anchoring, Temporal Consciousness and Self-Agency—can be operationalised as distinguishable but related constructs.
UMMM-MMD
The UMMM Mindset Maturity Diagnostic (UMMM-MMD) is an experimental research instrument being developed to investigate the four dimensions. It is a prototype—not a validated psychological test.
At this stage it should not be used for clinical assessment, employment selection, ranking people or other high-stakes decisions.
Primary research question
Can the four dimensions proposed by the Ubuntu–Maat Mindset Model be measured as distinguishable but related dimensions of Mindset Maturity?
A later question is whether Mindset Maturity predicts relevant attitudes, behaviours or institutional outcomes beyond existing measures.
Validation pathway
Expert review examines conceptual clarity, item representation, overlap, cultural appropriateness, ambiguity and social desirability. Cognitive interviews test how respondents actually interpret the language. Pilot testing then examines distributions, missingness, reliability, redundancy, factor structure and relationships among dimensions.
Why the full instrument is not published here
Publishing the complete questionnaire, scoring key and scenario answer logic too early could familiarise potential respondents with the items, influence responses and encourage misuse of a preliminary instrument. These materials are therefore circulated selectively for expert review and approved research collaboration.
Social desirability
Self-report ethics items can invite socially acceptable answers. The research programme therefore includes behavioural scenarios and, where feasible in later studies, comparison among stated values, scenario decisions and observed behaviour.
What would count as progress?
Progress would not mean obtaining a high reliability number and declaring the model validated. It would mean accumulating evidence about whether the constructs are coherent, distinguishable, culturally interpretable and useful for explaining something beyond existing theories.
Questions remain open: Is Relational Identity distinct from collectivism or prosocial orientation? Can Moral Anchoring be measured without social desirability dominating? Is Temporal Consciousness one construct or several? How does Self-Agency differ from self-efficacy and locus of control? Should the four dimensions form a higher-order Mindset Maturity construct at all?
